Here is, one of the reasons why esports is growing to be so popular compared to sports is its modernized approach to viewership. If you are watching a baseball game, there isn’t any way to get involved with what’s happening besides cheering when your team scores or booing at players who strike out. On the other hand, Overwatch Esports has effortless ideas that can be applied to a viewership, making it much more exciting for people who are watching at home.
One of the most simple ideas is picking a player and having viewers pick who they think will win. This gives people something to root for at home and provides them with the excitement that comes from knowing that you can directly affect what’s happening on screen.
Another way to increase viewership would be by creating complex stat systems such as ELO and KDA to get a feel for how skilled a player is. Creating leaderboards and rankings within the game will enable viewers to understand what they’re watching better and can help them know when players are performing well or poorly. I think that Overwatch esports can be one of the biggest games in the world if they focus on making the viewing experience exciting and fun for people who are watching at home. I think that if Blizzard opens up the doors for more national teams to enter into Overwatch esports while implementing concepts such as these, it could help turn Overwatch esports from a booming scene to a massive one.
Talking about how Overwatch Esports can be made great again:-
A popular show on TV involves people betting ridiculous amounts of money with celebrity contestants. Although on the surface, it would totally seem like a fun and exciting concept for viewers to watch, when you get down to the reality of what they’re doing, it becomes clear that most of the time, these stars are winning because they know what to do when it comes to gambling, and there is little to no actual skill involved. Suppose esports wants to be taken seriously in the world. In that case, I think they should take a page out of TV shows such as Billions and try implementing complex systems that make viewers feel like they influence the outcome of the matches.
Things are done by Blizzard for Overwatch Esports:-
Blizzard has already done a lot to try and shape Overwatch esports into something more serious recently they announced that players from other games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Starcraft II, LOL, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm can now compete in OWL, so long as they have enough OWL points. I think this is a fantastic idea that will allow more talented players to shine in the spotlight of Overwatch, but it’s just not enough.
As the Overwatch League has shown us, viewers enjoy knowing players’ and casters’ mindsets during intense moments in a game. One of my favorite things about OWL so far is how quickly casters seem to break down an enthusiastic team fight and let the viewers know exactly what is going through each player’s mind. You can constantly hear a caster say something along the lines of “Ryujehong just knew that he would have to step up in this situation with his teammates being so far behind.” Yet this level of insight into the mindset of pro gamers helps a casual fan understand how would the game would be played at a much deeper level.
Ending the article on Overwatch Esports:-The final thing that I feel can be done to increase viewership again falls on the backs of casters and analysts. Overwatch has an advantage over other esports in that it is straightforward to understand for people who are new to the game, but what matters is how entertaining it is to watch while explaining the game. I feel like Overwatch esports casters and analysts need to realize that they are entertainers first and foremost; playing the game is essential, but if you can’t bring in viewers with good storylines and exciting play, you won’t be around long enough to compete in OWL yourself.
