Khatrmaz – a story of a beautiful princess who is also a talented dancer and singer but doesn’t have the beauty or the talent to make it in Bollywood. A boyish look, short, straight black hair, not much of a singer, not much of a dancer – this was the image of an aspiring actress in the early 90s. She was also a dancer, which didn’t help matters. After her parents divorced, she had to move from Agra to Jalna (an old city on the west coast of India). Though her father had died, her mother insisted that Khatrmaz follow her footsteps – and move to Mumbai where she would be able to study dancing.
It was a tough decision for Khatrmaz but she decided to go ahead with it. Her first impression of Mumbai was that it was a dangerous place for a girl. “There’s a huge amount of crime here,” she remembers, “especially against girls.” But once she got over that, Mumbai quickly became her Dream home.
